Cookies and Google Analytics

GearNudge uses Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-VM41RDYNT8) to count visits and see which guides get read. It writes first-party cookies named _ga and _ga_<container>, which hold a random identifier, not your name. Google keeps them for up to 2 years.

Analytics does not load until you accept it. Until then, Google Consent Mode v2 holds analytics_storage at denied and the Google script is never requested, so no analytics cookie is written. Advertising storage stays denied at all times; GearNudge runs no ad tags.

Your answer is kept in your own browser under the localStorage key gn-consent. It is never sent to us. To change it, select Cookie settings in the footer of any page, or clear site data in your browser. Clearing site data resets you to "not asked", and analytics stays off until you accept again.

Affiliate links are handled separately. Selecting a /go/ link records the click for the link itself. It does not need a cookie on this site.
